Abstract

The author has made the clinical and statistical studies on Tic Douloureux of 86 patients including 39 1 of males and 47 of females.
These studies are very significant in the oral surgery and general practical dentistry.
Tic Douloureux, so-called true trigeminal, neuralgia, is painful disorder of gasserian and probably the root of the trigeminal nerve, and one or more of its branches having been affected.
This disease is characterized by a server e, excruciating, jabbing pain, which is activated by contact of a particular area on the face, the so-called trigger zone, lasting a short period, but recurring periodically at more frequent intervals until it may be almost continuous.
Trigeminal neuralgia usually begins in middle life and its exact etiolgy is unknown.
The clinical and statistical studies on trigeminal neuralgias of 86 cases were analysed upon several items, such as frequency of trigeminal neuralgia in sexual and aging differences, relationship between trigeminal neuralgia and economic conditions of patients, predominant area, recognition of trigger zone, relationship between paro-ysm of trigeminal neuralgia and seasons, duration and frequency of paroxysmal pain of trigeminal neuralgia.
The results were drawn as follows.
1. The author has treated 86 trigeminal neuralgia patients for from 1964 to 1968.
2. Trigeminal neuralgias were more occurred in the females(551/,q´) than t7,at in males(4-70%).
3. The dominant age of trigeminal neuralgias were seventh decade(32%), sixth decade(27%), fifth decade
i
(20%), eighth decade(14%), and fourth decade(70/,G´) in the order.
4. In the relationship between trigeminal neuralgia and economic conditions, the occurrences of trigeminal neuralgias were more in low class(52%), middle class(33%) and high class (15%) of economic conditions in the order.
5. The trigeminal neuralgias were more occurred in the mandible(75%) than that in maxila(24%), and
i
in the left sides(67%) than that in right sides(32%) of faces.
6. In the recognition of trigger zones, it was prevalent in the mental foramein(450%), infraorbi.tal foramen
(15%), oral mucosa(12%), mandibular foramen(11%), maxillary tuberosity(9%), and ignorant area
(8%) in the order.
7. In the occurrences of trigerninal neuralgias, it was predominant seasons, winter(53%), spring (27%), autumn(13%), and summer(10%) in the order.
8. Trigeminal neuralgia was old and prolonged disease. It was good paroxysmal time that was ? morniz~
(39%), midday(32%), evening(22%), and night(6%) in the order.
The duration and frequency of paroxysm of trigeminal neuralgins were longer and more in cases of Tat prolonged neuralgic patients than that in short onset neuralgic patients.
