Abstract

The Effects of the "essential" phospholipids, Lipostabil, on the serum lipid levels and clinical findings. were studied. The `essential´ phospholipids correspond to the endogenous phospholipids which is able to normalize pathological changes in cholesterol and lipoprotein in serum. To make a study on the effects of the essential phospholipids, Lipostabil, on the serum lipid level and clinical ch nges, twenty five patients with atherosclerosis and with hypertension received for seven months once a day 700 mg. of Lipostabil (4 capsules), reserpine and chiotride were given to 9 patients atherosclerosis with hypertension. The success of the treatment was objectively assessed by the measurements of serum lipid levels, cholesterol, phospholipids and c/p ratio, clinical findings, funduscopic findings (Keith) & blood pressure as well as the clinical findings by funduscopic changes and the effect upon blood pressure.
1) The effect of the agents induced decrease of serum cholesterol level and increase of serum phospholipid gradually in 8 months and from 4 months (decrease of) c/p ratio. There was a normalization of the serum lipid level, in 7 months.
2) Nine patients received antipressor drugs in addition to the agents showed no marked decrease of cholesterol effects of composed with the cases received the agents alone.
3) Pathologic changes of fundus exhibited improvements in all cases from 3 to 4 months.
4) Ten of hypertensive patients were on the whole gradually showed decrease of blood pressure from 3 months.
5) In general, the therapeutic effects of the essential phospholipid agent became apparent after 3 months of treatment.
