Abstract


The prime objectives of this analysis was to determine the activities of masseter muscle, temporal muscle, and anterior belly of digastric muscle during masticating the chewing gum in the position of centric occlusion, protrusive occlusion, retrusive occlusion and lateral excursion.
The subjects observed was 80 adult man with individual normal occlusion. The results were as follows;
1. In the physiologic rest position of mandible, there were found the electric potentials in each musces.
2. In the maximum openings of mouth, the outstanding electric activities of anterior belly of digastric muscle were showed.
3. In centric position of mandible:
a) Anterior Temporal Muscle: 320^,340 in. v.
b) Posterior Temporal Muscle: 240-260 m. v.
c) Anterior Masseter Muscle: 200^220 m. v.
d) Anterior Belly of Digastric Muscle: 80^100 nl. v.
4. In protrusive position of mandible:
a) Middle Temporal Muscle: 120^´140 m. v.
b) Posterior Temporal Muscle: 180^-200 in. v.
c) Posterior Masseter Muscle: 280^300 m. v.
d) Anterior Belly of Digastric Muscle: 40-60 m. v.
5. In retrosive position of mandible:
a) Posterior Temporal Muscle: 180^-200 m. v.
b) Anterior Pviasseter Muscle: 120140 in. v.
c) Posterior Masseter Muscle: 120----140 m. v.
d) Anterior Belly of Digastric Muscle: 240-´260 n3. v,
6. In lateral excursions of mandible:
a) Middle Temporal Musscle : 280^-300 m. v.
b) Posterior Temporal Muscle: 240^x260 m. v.
c) Anterior Masseter Muscle: 60^80 m. v.
d) Anterior Belly of Digastric Muscle : 100^-120 m. v.
