Abstract


A study on the maximum bite force of the fixed bridge was performed to evaluate the bite force recovery. From 395 (male 212, female 183) persons, 503 cases of anterior and posterior fixed bridges were measured for their maximum bite force, and the maximum bite forces of collateral normal teeth were measured for the control. For this measurement, electronic strain gauge was used.
These measurements were statistically analyzed by abutments, pontics, bridges made of various dental alloys and terms of use.
The results were as follows;
1) The intensity of bite force was natural teeth, abutment teeth and pontics in order.
2) The bite force of splinted weak tooth was increased by splinting with the strong tooth. Especially, the tendency of increasing its power was to be seen from upper lateral incisors and also in primary abutments.
3) The bite force of the bridge having three or more pontics was markedly decreased than normal sound teeth.
4) The intensity of bite force of bridges made of various dental alloys was gold bridge, white gold bridge, nickel-chrome alloy bridge in order.
5) The bite forces of abutment and pontic were increasingly approached to the normal bite force by the lapse of time.
6) It almost hardly can be seen that the recovery of impaired bite force by bridge can be strictly normal.
