Abstract


The pathogensis of periodontal diseases originated from endogenic and exogenic factors. Forbus reported that individual is capable of reacting to noxious influences in one of three ways by resisting, submitting, affecting, and adaptation. These responses may be affected or altered by function of endocrine glands. Son clarified that systemically on the metabolism of ginval tissue of the rabbits reacting to the various agents including local iniury from formalin injection, injection of steroid hormones and ovariectomy.
However, the metabolism of salivary gland in regard to noxious agents has not been explored extensively on an experimental basis.
The present experiment was performend to clarify systemically on the metabolism of salivary gland pf the rabbits on the various agents such as injection of steroid hormones and ovariectomy.
Materials and Methods
This experimental study was carried out on 60 female rabbits and these animals were divided into 12 groups and each group was consisted of five rabbits. The single dose was cortisone 50mg., estrogen 5 units/100 gm. body weight, and including ovariectomy.
This experiment was performed on the rabbits consecutively until animals were sacrificed, in which were divided into 3, 7, 14 days respectively. For the investigation of the tissue changes the author used Hematoxylin & Eosin as a routine procedure, Periodic Acid Schiff, and Methyl Green-Pyronin stains.
Results and Conclusions
1. Injection of cortisone gave rise to production of mucopolysaccharides and amount of RNA
2. Injection of estrogen gave rise heavily increased production and amount of RNA
3. Ovariectomized salivary gland showed increased production of mucopolysaccharides and decreased amount of RNA
