Abstract

Owing to the progress in industry, industrial accidents have become one of the major social problems. Recent utilization of mechanical power in industry has contributed to marked promotion of industrial productivity in many respects, and has made a great contribution to modern living. But, on the other hand, it is true that frequency and severity of industrial accidents have increased.
According to statistics in 1963, analyzed by the Bureau of Labor in Korea, about 16, 000 workers were injured, and the expenses ofnpensation for them amounted to 100 million won. Besides, indirect losses, such as loss of labor force incidental to accidents, etc., are estimated to be enormous.
Cause of industrial accidents can be classified into two major categories: one caused by inproper environmental working condition and the other associated with human error.
Poor economic conditions and lack of both employers´ and employees´ interests safety, have interfered with improving industry as well as achieving progress in health and safety management.
