Abstract


The authors analyzed exhaustion gases and noise of F-5A jets, along with making an environmental survey in K-13.
The results may be summarized as follows:
1. As the RPM of jet engines increased, the concentration of S3, gas also increased, while CO2 and NO2 concentrations did not show such a parallel change with an increase in the RPM of engines. However, the concentrations of CO2 and NO2, revealed 3 and 2 fold increases respectively when after-burners were used.
2. The concentrations of O2 and CO2, were on an average 19.1 and 0.53 vol % respectively, which seemed to have nothing to do with the RPM of engines. NH3 concentrations were 6.7 ppm at 80% of RPM and almost none at 100%. HCHO and Pb were not detected in the whole range of RPM.
3. Jet noise increased its sound pressure by 5 dB with every 20% increase in RPM and the peaks were observed at 4,000cps and between 500 and 1, 000 cps.
4. The noise pattern at 55 meters away from a F-86D noise source was similar to that measured at the engine test cell.
5. The noise from F-5A measured at 335 meters from a source had a characteristic of greater loss of noise pressure toward higher cps range possibly because of greater distance at which the measurements were made.
6. The noise in the hangers was of white band of an average of 100 dB regardless of the type of aircrafts with exceptions at 63 and 8, 000 cps.
7. The aircraft noise level inside the alert room was an average of 88.5 dB and was 15 dB less as compared with that outside the alert room,
8. The jet noise distribution in Su Won area was as follows:
When engines were started on a runway, the minimum noise level of 65 dB was found within a 3-mile range in the direction of east 79°south and of west 69°south, During low altitude, take -off flights, the noise level within 5.7 miles in the front and within 2.6 miles on both sides of a F-5A might be at least 65 dB.
