Abstract


According to the recent repert of Pan, stimulation of vagal afferents caused two tytes of ;spouses on blood pressure depending upon the stimulus frequency; stimulus with lcw frcqueni´ (below 20 cps) evoked depressor reflexes and stimulus with high frequency (above 4Ccps) oked pressor reflexes: Physiological significance of such bleed pressure resronEcs has not ,en discussed.
The author has studied the effect of vagal afferent stimulation upon blood pressure and spiration and reached to the following conclusions.
1. In stimulation of vagal afferents, depressor reflex was caused with stimulus of low equency (below 20 cps) and pressor reflex was caused with stimulus of high frequency above 40 cps), and these blood pressure responses always accompanied transient apnea hich was not dependent on frequency of stimulus.
2. In stimulation with different frequencies, local application of procaine on the nerve, iolished the high frequency effects prior to the low frequency effects.
3. The pressor reflex caused by high frequency stimulation is ascribed to the excitation of 1n fibers.
