Abstract


Plenty of works concerning the effect of stimulation of the afferent fibers in the sympathetic nerves on the bodily responses have appeared in the literatures. However, studies on the effect of stimulation of proximal end of the sympathetic nerve upon blood pressure and respiration are not reported, and the author has investigated the effect of the stimulation of proximal end of hypogastric, major splanchnic and cervical sympathetic nerves upon blood pressure and respiration, applying the different parameters of stimulus, and obtained following results.
1. Stimulation of proximal. end of the hypogastric and major splanchnic nerves caused depressor reflex accompanied with augmented respiration regardless of stimulus conditions.
2. Stimulation of the proximal end of the hypogastric and major splanchnic nerve did not affect heart rate.
3. Depressor reflex and respiratory reflex caused by the stimulation of proximal end of the hypogastric and major splanchnic nerve were markedly enchanced by the stimulation with high frequency and intensity.
4. Stimulation of proximal end of cervical sympathetic nerve did not affect blood pressure and respiration, and sympathetic nerve seems to be lack of afferent fibers which are related to the regulation of blood pressure and respiration.
