Abstract

Intramedullary nailing is most widely applied as an ideal method of fracture treatment and its basic principle is stable osteosynthesis through flexibe impingement of the nail into bone.
The procedure become more popular and successful in that the insertion of a nail was obtained by virtue of image intensifier without direct exposure of fracture site.
Six complications following intramedullary nailing was experienced during 5 years from 1962 to 1966.
There were 2 infections, 1 case each of nail bending, breaking, proximal migration and also refrrclure.
Possible cause of each complication and necessity of additional external support in case of incomplete rigidity following nailing were discussed.
