Abstract

Study Design: Case Report

Objectives: Traumatic atlanto-axial dislocation is an unstable injury. We reported clinical and radiographic outcome after occipitocervical fixation with partial reduction in single stage

Summary of Literature Review: Traumatic neglected atlanto-axial dislocation in pediatric is specific cervical spine injury patterns and rare condition that challenge for surgical. management.

Materials and Methods: A 8-year-old boy presented with torticollis and neck pain. He was diagnosed with a traumatic neglected atlanto-axial dislocation after 9 months ago injury. He had preoperative spastic gait. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed an atlanto-dental dislocation with basilar invagination. He was treated with occipitocervical fixation (occiput to C2) in a single stage.

Results: Post-operatively radiographs were satisfactory. The patient received a rehabilitation program. The patient improved relief of his torticollis and neck pain at a 3-month follow-up.

Conclusions: Posterior instrumented correction (Occipitocervical fixation) is an effective alternative method to a Traumatic neglected atlanto-axial dislocation in pediatric associated with basilar invagination.
