Abstract


From April 29, 1964, a pot culture of one year old peach seedlings was conducted under natural conditions to investigate the effects of sod mulches on the P and K contents of the trees and on the soil properties.
The results:
1. The P and K contents in the mulching materials produced were found to be highest in the orchard grass plot, followed by ladino clover and alfalfa.
2. The contents of P and K in the leaves and shoots were proved significantly higher in the sodmulching plots than in the control. Particularly the alfalfa plot showed highest yield.
3. The contents of P and K in the soil showed conspicuously higher in the sod-mulching plots than in the control, with those in orchard grass plot being the highest.
4. The total quantity of base exchange capacity and the loss of ignition were found higher in the sod-mulching plots than in the control, with those in orchard grass plot being the highest.
5. The PH value of the soil showed in general the tendency of more approaching to the nutral, in the sod-mulching plots, compared with that in the control.
6, As the total production of mulching-materials as well as the P-content in the stem and K-content in the trees increased, P-content in the stem and K content in the trees decreased.
7. As the P-content in the mulching materials incressed, the trees ensued less vigorous linear growth.
8. Larger amount of mulching materials as well as their higher content resulted in higher P-content and total exchangeable bases in the soil.
9. Between the nitrogen content in the soil and that in the leaves proved to be positivly correlated.
