Abstract

Purpose: This study was a secondary data analysis to investigate the relationship between subjective body weight perception and various health factors, including health behaviors among Korean adolescents.

Results: Females were more likely to be overweight than males (OR: 1.72, 95% CI: 1.12-2.65). The perceptional overweight in the group trying to lose weight was high in weight control efforts (OR: 5.44, 95% CI: 3.24-9.13), and those who answered very good / good perceived low overweight in subjective health status (OR: 0.31, 95% CI: 0.19-0.51). The lower the average daily sleep t ime during the week, the higher the recognition of overweight (OR: 2.14, 95% CI: 0.18-3.89). The group with high stress perception had a higher percentage o f overweight (OR: 1.47, 9 5% C I: 1 .01-2.14).

Conclusion: This study confirmed the relationship between subjective body weight perception and various health factors of adolescents and identified the importance of proper weight status of adolescents.
