Abstract

Cervical nerve root block (CNRB) has an important role in the conservative management of patients with cervical radicular pain. However, many anesthesiologists are not familiar with CNRB. We reviewed the medical records of 66 patients, who received CNRB because of sustained cervical radicular pain in spite of cervical epidural block. All kinds of informations such as patient’s demographic data, diagnosis, site of CNRB, remnant pain after CNRB and complications were included. Mean age of the patients was 58.5 years. Herniation of cervical disc was the most common cause for CNRB and left C6 nerve root was the most common site of CNRB. 65% of the patients showed pain relief more than 50% after CNRB. No significant complication was observed. We conclude that CNRB is an effective procedure for the treatment of cervical radicular pain, especially in the patients with sustained pain regardless of cervical epidural block.
