Abstract

This study was performed to be used as basic data of the policies related to farmer’s syndrome of the area later, after certifying the rate of benignancy of farmer’s syndrome of farmers who had farmed for many years in Buyeo - gun,
Chungnam Province, and finding out its related factors, The subjects of this study, 455 people who were farming in
Buyeo - gun, Chungnam Province, were surveyed for 11 days from Aug 16, 2005 to Aug 26, 2005. And then 428 people
were analyzed excluding 27 people whose substance was not insufficient, and the results of it were as follows.
1. The rate of benignancy of farmer’s syndrome (10.5%) was high in those who were working for 4~8 hours a day
when they had chronic diseases and their subjective state of health was not good (p < 0.01).
2. The rate of benignancy of farmer’s syndrome tended to increase in females, those who were getting older, those who
farmed at vinyl houses rather than those who farmed in general, and those who had farmed longer, which was not statistically significant.
3. As for the complaint rate of the syndromes relevant to farmer’s syndrome by gender, they were as follows, that is,
’those whose shoulder ached’ (35.0%), ’those whose waist ached’ (33.4%), ’those whose hands and feet were benumbed’ (5.19%), and ’those whose head reeled and was sick’ (70.8%), which were higher in males than in females.
4. As a result of Logistic Regression Analysis based on the benignancy of farmer’s syndrome, the factors influencing
the benignancy of farmer’s syndrome were farming career, stress, chronic diseases and whether or not drinking.
There was much danger of the benignancy of farmer’s syndrome in females, farming career more than 50 years, those
who felt much stress, those who had chronic diseases, and those who drank. In this study, as farmer’s syndrome was not affected by anything related to farming except farming career, it is assumed that it doesn’t happen only in the groups who are engaged in farming, and so it is necessary to examine whether it has to do with degenerative diseases according to the increase in age or not.
